Don’t Go Away Mad, and Other Random Thoughts From Today
I was a huge fan of 80’s hair bands when that was fashionable ( and even when it wasn’t ), and occasionally I feel the need to introduce my kids to some of my favorites from that time. Tonight, for some reason, my wife wanted to listen to ‘Every Rose Has Its Thorn.’ She had seen some wretched version of it with Miley Cirus and wanted to hear the real thing. It sort of took off from there, with my son wanting to hear more and more. He seems to have taken a shine to music with lots of guitars and lots of drums.
We eventually stumbled across Motley Crue and settled in for four or five songs. We ended with my wife’s favorite, ‘Don’t Go Away Mad ( Just Go Away ).’ As I was sitting there letting my kids listen to songs about strip clubs, fast cars, partying hard, and generally living it up I realized I would not win any Parent of the Year awards in a lot of the circles I run in.
I have never understood people that don’t get into music. It’s like people that don’t like to eat good food. What a huge waste.
Does anyone else think that General McChrystal is dumb like a fox? I was talking to my good friend Heath today and he had a great point. There is no way this guy was that loose around a Rolling Stone reporter by accident. I don’t know his motivations. Maybe it was to draw attention, maybe it was to take the bullet for the rest of his outfit, or maybe he just wanted out. It’s hard to say. Whatever the motivation, I don’t think he just screwed up.
I have been writing every day for the last couple of weeks now. I have to tell you that it gives me a new appreciation for the guys that can crank it out day after day with only a few misses. It’s freaking hard to write good stuff every day. And by good stuff, I mean stuff that I feel really good about. However, what it has done is show me where I need work, and how much room I have to get better before people will really start to care.
