Taking time

It’s Monday July 5th, and I had a great weekend.  Saturday I spent re-insulating the room over my garage ( or should I say insulating it because it was never done by the previous guy ), and then went to a friend’s house for dinner.  Yesterday we had a different group of friends over for homemade ice cream and went to watch the fireworks at the local golf course here.  All of those things were great, but I got to the end of the day yesterday and realized I spent very little of that time with my kids.

I could easily spend today working.  I have a lot of things that need to be done, and though I have the day off from my “day job”, I have plenty of other things I could be doing.  I decided when I woke up, however, that I am going to spend the day with my family, just hanging out and doing what they want to do.  It is so rare that I ever actually do this, and it takes me actually making a conscious decision before it happens.
I am sure there are those that think a day off from your “day job” is the best time to do other stuff, and I usually do that.  But, aside from writing this post ( I missed a couple days over the weekend ), and perhaps playing a little tennis, I am going to relax and enjoy my family.  I don’t know what the next few months will bring, so I am taking the opportunity while I have it.
For those of you that have the luxury of having today off, go and enjoy it.  I plan to.
