The Right Has Rich People! The Right Has Rich People!

I read this article today by Frank Rich, the esteemed columnist from the beacon of truth, the New York Times.

I was stunned to find out the following things:

  • The latest incarnation of the conservative movement, the Tea Party thing that Beck and Palin are trotting out, has lots of rich people giving them money.
  • These rich people don’t care anything about poor people.
  • These same rich people are all white, as are all of the evil rich people in the world.  They hate people of any other color or socio-economic standing.
  • If only Franklin Roosevelt were alive, he would expose these charlatans for the evil, cunning, dastardly people they are.
  • They are radical.  I am not sure about what, but they are radical.
  • They are self-interested.  They have actually managed to absorb all of the self-interest in the world so that no one else can be self-interested.
  • They like hanging around lots of other rich, white people.
I like good journalism, regardless of political leaning.  I like people that challenge my thinking.  Sure, I lean to the conservative side of things, but I am also rich and white so of course I would.
If I were to land in New York today and read this article ( assuming I spoke and read English ), I might be led to believe that those not involved in the Tea Party movement ( ok, the Democrats ) were elected by us regular Americans.  We each put $1 in the plate as it was passed, and by golly we raised a pantload of money to put our man Obama in the White House.  We beat back those bastards in corporate America, by heck!
The reality, of course, is that all politics in this country ( and most every other country I would imagine ) are governed by the elites and the rich.  There are just as many rich, white people giving money to the Democratic party as there are to the Tea Party.  There are just as many “radical” agendas on the left as there are on the right.
Not agreeing with a different point of view does not make one radical.  It makes one different.  Different is good.  Different makes life interesting.
The Tea Party is a joke.  We know that.  Anything with Sarah Palin as the head honcho is a farce.  But, don’t even try to make the argument that the other side of the aisle has somehow found it’s way to power along the straight and narrow.  We may have been born at night, but it wasn’t last night.  Being a columnist for the New York Times does not make you correct, it just makes you loud.
