That’s Amore
Love means different things to different people. I think, when we are young, we all think love is romance. Of course, we are young and stupid, so we really don’t know. I offer a public tribute on this Valentine’s Day to Shelley, my bride of 16+ years. This is what love looks like to me:
- Making sure the dry towel is closest to me when I get out of the shower instead of the wet one
- Ensuring we don’t run out of things you know I really enjoy
- Handling the minutia of our lives every day so I don’t have to
- Being willing to call me out when I get completely self-absorbed (which happens more than it should)
- Not kicking me when I’m down
- Not running me down when with your friends
- Being willing to risk it all on my hair-brained ideas
- Being ok ( well, somewhat ok anyway ) when I answer “I don’t know if it will work or not.”
- Being #4 (even though you aren’t, I know you think you are)
- Staying committed, even when I make it extremely difficult for you to figure out why you are.
- Staying hot (it’s last on the list, but only because I would have exposed my true vanity by putting it first )
The stuff that we think matters when we first get married ends up mattering very little. There are a thousand little things that you do to make my life better. I can’t imagine life without you, and love you very much.
