May’s Must-Haves
Each month I’m going to provide a list of resources (podcasts, talks, blog posts, books, music etc.) that I consider to be must-haves. There’s no doubt that you’ll see recurring themes or resources throughout these posts.
Here’s May’s list. I hope you enjoy / get as much from these things as I did:
- Just Enough Research – The gospel truth on how to do customer research for your application. A MUST-HAVE if I’ve ever seen one.
- Tim Ferriss interview with Seth Godin – I listen to every single episode of this podcast, but this one was one of the best ever.
- Jocko Willink Podcast Episode #12 – The first hour of this podcast will have you saying “Oh my God” every five minutes
- Casey Gerald on the Gospel of Doubt – TED talk that will force you to question all that you “know” to be true
- The War of Art by Steven Pressfield – I heard about this book for years and finally read it a couple of months ago. Prepare to get your ass kicked
- The Forgotten Highlander by Alistair Urquhart – This ties in with the Jocko podcast above. The most remarkable story of survival and perseverance I’ve ever read. If you read and liked Unbroken, this will forever stick with you
- Exponential Review – Tremendous newsletter about artificial intelligence and lots of other future tech. Highly highly recommend
- The Maine – American Candy – I get most of my new music from my kids (I like to think of it as payback for giving them the love of music). The Maine is a super band and this album is on point. My favorite tracks include “Am I Pretty?” which should be required listening for anyone with a teenage daughter. I also really like “(Un)Lost”, but honestly it’s all good.
- The Barkley Marathon – Documentary about an ultra-marathon in the Tennessee mountains.
- The Way I Live – Love this track by Baby Boy Da Prince. Again, thank you to my children.
Enjoy May’s Must-Haves and see you in June with more goodies!
P.S. Did you know I have a podcast? If you like reading about starting and running technology startups, you’ll love my podcast where I talk to up and coming founders as well as grizzled veterans about how they’ve built their companies.
