How to Join a Company

There are two ways to present yourself when you join a new company:

1. You already know everything about the company and their problems
2. You are there to discover the details about the company and then apply your skills and expertise

I’ve seen this done both ways, most recently observing someone take the approach of #1. For those who are inside the company already and battling it out, there are few things more annoying than someone new walking in and assuming they know and understand all of the nuances of the current situation.

Try showing up with a notebook, an inquisitive mind, and assuming that everyone you talk to has something to teach you about the company, the products, the customer and the market.
