Nine Women and a Baby

One of my favorite sayings of all time goes something like: “Nine women can’t make a baby in one month.”

This is almost always true in building software. Sometimes adding people to a project is what you need to do, but a lot of times adding more people slows everything down.

If you’re under the gun on your product, trying to hit a deadline, adding new people into the middle of the process will very rarely work. Instead, figure out a way to incent the current team to knuckle down and get over the finish line.

You can add people after you get through the crisis, once you know clearly what you need.
