July 2018 Must-Haves

Every month I publish a list of blogs, podcasts, books, products or anything else I consider to be a must-have or must-do. Hope you enjoy this month’s list.

In case you’ve not stumbled across it, I’m publishing a short summary of every book I’ve read on my website. My references to books going forward will be to those summaries rather than to Amazon directly, as I generally go into more detail there than in this list.

Reading

  • Bad Blood by John Carreyrou – The inside story of Theranos. I had just started this last month and finished it this month. The best book I’ve read in a long time (maybe ever) in it’s genre.
  • Mission: Black List #1 – The Inside Story of the Search for Saddam Hussein by Eric Maddox – One of those books that even though you know how the story ends you still want to know how the story ends.
  • Leonardo Da Vinci by Walter Isaacson – Isaacson at his best. I listened to this one and then got the hard copy from the library to look at all of the references. Fantastic story.

Watching

  • Billions – I made the mistake of getting the free trial to Showtime a few weeks ago and watching the first episode of this show. I’m now hooked. It’s Wall Street in series form. Great cast. You will love it. I am not uncertain.
  • All or Nothing: Dallas Cowboys – Easily the best in the series of NFL teams profiled. Jon Hamm is stellar as the narrator. I have to say I hated Jason Garrett before watching this series and completely changed my opinion.

Listening

  • Bigger Pockets – A podcast about real estate investing. I’ve been doing a bunch of research into this whole area and this podcast has been a great addition.
  • Paradise Theatre by Styx – Somehow the other day the chorus from “Rockin the Paradise” came up, which led me to go back and listen to this whole album. So good. And, bonus, while cleaning some stuff out of my parent’s attic I found my original vinyl copy. “The Best of Times” remains, to this day, one of my favorites. Enjoy this one from the wayback machine.

Hope you find something on this month’s list that suits your fancy!
