Everyone is an Artist?

I watched PressPausePlay this week.  If you have not watched it, I highly recommend it.  You can download it for free now.  The movie is a documentary about the democratization of creativity.

If you follow the writing of Seth Godin at all, you will be familiar with his premise that everyone is an artist at something.  Seth is in this movie as well.  I am a big fan of his work, and find him to be one of the most insightful people alive.  He thinks on a plane I am not yet on.

The thing I like about this movie is that it presents some great point-counterpoint to the idea that everyone is an artist, at least in the traditional sense.  Just because anyone can record their own songs or make their own movies does not mean that they should.  Not everyone is actually good at all of this stuff, and the argument is that there is so much noise now that we don’t get to see all of the true artists.

On the other hand, the barriers to creating a new business or movie or song are lower now than ever.  More people are getting the shot to have their voice heard.  More great artists are being found.

Watch this movie and then let’s chat about it here in the comments.
