iPhone? Hardly tells the story

Last night our home lost power in the middle of the night due to some pretty nasty rain storms.

What happened in the next 5 minutes after the power dropped provides a really clear picture of why the iPhone is my favorite piece of technology.

When the power went out, I woke up to the beeping of my UPS units beeping in various parts of the house. After making sure this was not just a power blip, I picked up my phone, got on Safari, and Googled the number for Progress Energy to report the power loss. I got to the page, clicked the number and called Progress Energy.

As soon as I was done reporting the outage, I pulled up the MyLite application and turned my phone into a flashlight to go check on everything and everyone in the house. Satisfied that we were in good shape, I went back to bed.

No matches, no flashlights or candles, no fumbling thru the phone book to find the number to call. In less than 5 minutes, using one device, I had done all I needed to do and could go back to bed.
