May 2018 Must-Haves
Every month I publish a list of blogs, podcasts, books, products or anything else I consider to be a must-have or must-do. Hope you enjoy this month’s list. It’s a short one.
Reading
- The Girl with Seven Names – Wow. A riveting story of a young woman’s escape from North Korea to China and then eventually to the United States. I could not put this one down once I started it.
- Remains of the Day – A blog by Eugene Wei, who writes about all kinds of great topics, some of which are stories of Amazon’s early days. Fascinating article about trash pickup in Taipei amongst the list.
- Investor Field Guide Book Club – This is a must-subscribe. I get a ton of great reading from this monthly recap by the author of his favorite books of the previous month.
Watching
- People vs. O.J. Simpson – I watched this on Netflix. Great complement to the documentary about OJ Simpson and Race in America. Must-watch, and highly recommend watching with your kids if they’re 13 or so. Both series dig deep into race and other cultural issues. Great conversation starters.
- Westworld – I’m 4 episodes into season two. It’s gettin’ stranger and stranger.
- Game of Thrones – I read the books a number of years ago and am finally getting around to watching the series. Currently in Season 4.
- The Rain – A Danish series on Netflix about bioterror. Exceptional series. Highly recommend in the original Danish with English subtitles rather than the English translation.
Listening
- On Being with Krista Tippett – This is one of my regulars and has been for about a year now. Widely varying guests talking about spirituality and the human condition. My favorites from this past month: Yo Yo Ma, Eugene Peterson, and David Whyte.
- The Knowledge Project – I’m just getting started on this one, but really enjoy it so far. My favorite from this month: Patrick Collison of Stripe
That’s it for this month.
