More And Less 2010 – Wrapping Up
At the beginning of this year, I set out to live differently. I called it the More And Less List, and it went something like this:
- More doing, less talking about doing
- More time with people I want to spend time with, less time with people I don’t
- More thinking about impacting the world, less time about impacting me
- More seeing the world, less seeing the inside of my house
- More in the moment, less in the future, and even less in the past
- More gratitude, less complaining
- More energy, less fatigue
- More big, less small
I posted a mid-year update in June. I won’t recap all of that again, but I would put the year 2010 in my top 3 years all time.
In terms of new stuff since June, the big change has been starting my own company, Rocket Hangar. It is still really early, as I am only 4 months in, but it has been a lot of fun so far ( and somewhat stressful ). It has been good for me to go through all of the things it takes to get something off the ground all by myself. Everything from coming up with a name, to finding attorneys and accountants, to ordering business cards, generating invoices, getting new business, figuring out my own product strategy, and so on have just been great. I have gotten some of it right, a lot of it wrong, but it’s all been good.
I have not regretted leaving Symantec one time. I don’t miss any part of it ( OK, I somewhat miss the money ).
From other items on the list, I continue to find work with interesting organizations that are changing the world. I have been working with Jobs For Life and the New Canaan Society, both led by tremendous people with great missions.
I have met a bunch of new people in the RDU area interested in working with me on my new venture. What has been interesting for me is that a whole new world opened up once I was willing to take the step out on my own. I look forward to doing great things early in 2011 with a couple of them.
Over the next few days I will post my More and Less List for 2011. I am traveling and will have time to really sit back and think about things.
For 2010, I have been richly blessed, far beyond what I deserve. A special shout-out to my family, who goes along for the ride on many of my hair-brained ideas. I apologize in advance for the psychological harm I am causing.
Merry Christmas to those of you that read this blog. To those of you that don’t, well, you get a lump of coal!
Buona notte, 2010.
Buon giorno, 2011.
