November 2016 Must-Haves

Each month I’m going to provide a list of resources (podcasts, talks, blog posts, books, music etc.) that I consider to be must-haves. There’s no doubt that you’ll see recurring themes or resources throughout these posts. I publish my Must-Haves on the closest Tuesday or Friday to the 15th of every month.

Check out OctoberSeptemberAugustJulyJune and May’s list if you’re just joining the party.

Here’s my list of November 2016 Must-Haves:

  • Technically Sentient – An excellent newsletter on AI, robotics and neurotechnology from Rob May. Comes once a week and is loaded with articles on the latest in all of this tech.
  • Rollbar – A neat error handling framework for your application. Comes with integration libraries for most of the major libraries and provides simple to use tools to review application errors, as well as get notifications. Of course, it doesn’t make you write better code or keep you from generating unnecessary error messages, it at least puts it in your face.
  • Originals by Adam Grant and Sheryl Sandberg – As with most business books like this, there’s some repeating of the same old stories, but there’s some great nuggets in here. One of my favorites is how a founder pitched his startup to investors by telling them every reason they should NOT invest.
  • Here’s the Thing with Alec Baldwin – Great, new (to me) podcast I started listening to this month. Check out the episodes with Molly Ringwald and Howard Schulz of Starbucks to get yourself started.
  • Tim Ferriss interview of David Heinemeier Hansson – I’ve been a follower of DHH and Jason Fried for the longest time. This interview is really great back story on one of the visionaries the internet era.
  • 57th and 9th by Sting – I grew up with the Police and have bought (I believe) every Sting album ever made. I just started listening to his latest and it’s another good one. As a special bonus, watch this performance of Fragile in the aftermath of the 9/11 bombings. Moves me to this day.

Only one more of my must-haves in 2016. This year has flown by. Thanks for reading all (or at least some) of the stuff I put out. As Thanksgiving looms here in the US in the next few weeks, I have much to be thankful for, not the least of which is that I get to work on things I truly enjoy most every day.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy this month’s list as much as I have.
