Using Core Product Loop to Focus Your Product Development
What’s the part of your app that you have to nail? Have you thought about your app this way? I’m not talking about MVPs. This is even more granular than an MVP. Within your MVP, what’s the thing that, if you get it right, is the key to successful growth?
Core Product Loop
That thing you just thought about is called your Core Product Loop. I was first introduced to this concept at the end of last year on the This Week in Startups podcast hosted by Jason Calacanis. Jared Fliesler of Matrix Partners VC and former growth guru at Square, Slide and Google explained the concept in detail, and I immediately started referencing it in every conversation with new companies I’m working with.
Jared defines Core Product Loop as “The core thing that almost all of your users go through. It is the heart and soul of your app.” He goes on to say “If you don’t get this right, it’s like having a hole in the bottom of your ship that users are falling out of.”
His in-depth walk-through of the Core Product Loop at Square is one of the best lessons on focused product development I’ve ever seen.
